New Castle County Republican Committee Statement On County Council Budget Vote

This is a sad day for New Castle County taxpayers. It is unfortunate that hard-working families across the county will now be forced to stomach the second-largest tax increase in New Castle County history – especially at a time when so many are struggling.
The budget approved yesterday does not address the serious, systemic issues that have afflicted county government for far too long and resulted in a record deficit.
Regrettably, it was just a few short years ago that County Government had an unprecedented surplus. One party rule now has led to the citizens of New Castle County being punished for years of mismanagement and excessive government spending.
At a time when so many major companies and institutions are reorganizing and reassessing their mission, our county government, given its financial failure, should also be considering a comprehensive transformation.
Socking taxpayers with this 25% increase in property taxes is unimaginative and counterproductive.
